There are many advantages in planning ahead: relieving some of the emotional stress on your family, as well as reducing the financial burden the cost of a funeral will present to your family. Perhaps most importantly, planning ahead gives you the opportunity to create a very personal and meaningful funeral ceremony for yourself – one that reflects who you are and what was significant to you throughout your life.

Step 1: Record Your Wishes

Our staff will outline your options and the costs involved so that you can make an informed decision about the type of funeral service you want.

Some things to consider are:

  • Burial or Cremation
  • Location of the service: Our Funeral Home Chapel; a Church; Crematorium Chapel; or another place of significance.
  • Style of Funeral: Celebration Service; Religious Funeral; Memorial Service (no coffin present); Basic, no frills service.
  • Coffin or Casket Selection
  • Flowers on the Coffin
  • Service stationery: Order of Service booklets or Memorial Cards
  • Photo Slideshow
  • Music Selection – Hymns or CD Music
  • Newspaper Notices
  • Catering following the service

Step 2: Prepayment Options

Investing in a Prepaid Funeral Savings Bond is a responsible way to ensure funds are readily accessible to follow through with your funeral wishes.

Funeral Bond Savings Plan

A Funeral Bond is where you can invest funds into a managed account which can only be accessed to cover funeral expenses when the time comes. Payment can be made in two ways:

Upfront: Payment can be made in full at the time of setup, either by direct debit from a bank account or cheque.

Instalments: After an initial deposit, regular monthly payments can be made via direct debit from your nominated bank account, at a value set by yourself to meet your budget. Payments will cease once adequate funds are invested to cover your wishes.

Step 3: Discuss With Others

It is important to share your Funeral Wishes with those who will be responsible for organising your funeral when the time comes. After we have met, we will compile a document that outlines all the decisions made, known as your ‘Personal Wishes Statement’. A copy of this will be safely kept in our files, along with copies provided to you to share with others.
Funeral Fund Paperwork:
If you decided to setup a ‘Prepayment Option’, you will receive paperwork from Sureplan Friendly Society outlining the Fund Information and your Member Number for future reference. You will also receive an annual report from Sureplan outlining any bonuses your Funeral Fund has received over the past 12 months.
